: About Me

Welcome to the Mark Butler Helium Home Page and thank you for taking the time to learn more about me and perhaps check out more of my articles and essays. From time to time I work on improving some of my articles and I'll look to increase the number of articles that I have written. I've also finished my MBA as my second graduate degree from TUI University and have been accepted into a PhD program that I will begin in the Fall of 2009. This will an interesting transistion for me as I've also picked up a part time adjunct faculty position on the strenght of my MBA and Navy leadership experience.

I've helped many people with their resume and have written more than a few that garnered good results. If you need help with a resume or would like it critiqued, please contact me at mark.butler2@gmail.com. My rates are very low as I enjoy helping others but must charge a small nominal fee (via PayPal) because of the impact the economy has had on my position in the work force. Read the articles and you will see!

After a very rewarding 30 year career in the Navy and 5 tours as a Command Master Chief I decided to move to New England. I wrote many articles while in the Navy with over 100 under the pen name of Victor Rodriguez and another 18 under my own name including an award winning essay entitled "It's Not About Fun". I enjoy writing for Helium because it has given me a chance to write on a wider variety of topics.

I'm happily married with two grown sons and two wonderful grandsons (twins). My wife of 30 years is the love of my life. She is also a wonderful grandmother and the one person on this earth who makes everything worth it for me!

My picture is one of me doing what I like to do in my very limited free time.

Why I write ...

Because it seems like I have to - and I can't imagine not writing. I've had articles published by the United States Naval Institute (usni.org) and you can check them out there by searching the archives.

What I am reading/watching/listening to ...

The daily paper, woodworking magazines, news web sites, home improvement shows and classic rock.

My first job ...

Dishwasher and I earned a whoppping $1.75 an hour doing it.

My best moment ...

Professionally - While I was in the Navy and helping Sailors. Personally - When I'm holding my bride in my arms.

My inspiration ...

My father and my mother. Dad for his ability to simplify and Mom for her incredible patience in Dad and her three sons because we were not called "Those Butler Boys" for nothing.

While we cannot change how a person thinks, we can hold that person accountable for their words and deeds. To eliminate racial discrimination in the workplace involves several steps.
