About me - John Muir

About me

Hi, and thank you for reading this. I am a 60 years old man, because of health problems I cannot work, but the upside of this is that I can write more for Helium !
I have many and varied interests. I guess my main interest in life is that I own and Exhibit three Lhasa Apsos. For the last 5 years my Lhasas have been ranked as the top winning Lhasas in Queensland, Australia, where my home is. I do fly Interstate for really important Shows, usually doing well at these. I am a member of three Yahoo Groups, one about Showing Dogs in general, the other two specifically about Lhasas. I also run our local Dog show, and over the years have now managed to have it ranked Number ! in the Area.
One of my other interests is Cross stitch. I usually do a couple of hours per day. I do not do small ones, preferring the challenge of large projects. As I have so many completed ones, I occasionally offer one for sale on Ebay, and my latest success was being paid AU$3500.00 for a winter scene containing 77,000 Stitches.
I am also a prolific reader, and in this area my tastes are very diverse. Biographies, Fiction ranging from well known authors, and i am always seeking out new Authors. Some of my favorite Authors are Tom Clancy, Stephen Coonts, Matthew Reilly, Robin Cook, Tess Gerritsen, Patricia Cornwell, Penny Vincenzi, and Jilly Cooper. Icould list many more, but don't want to bore anyone.
As well as writing articles for Helium, I also write a Monthly Column for a Publication called DogNewsAustralia. This is a bit of a misnomer, as it is sold in many Countries.
I love Gourmet Food and fine wine, and am a bit of a buff on Malt Whiskers, Glenmorangie being my favorite, followed closely by Lochanora.
Writing for Helium gives me great pleasure, with some of my articles rating very well. I feel somewhat handicapped, as our views in Australia do not coincide with those in the States, so occasionally I bomb, but, so what, I still enjoy writing them.
Good luck to all other Helium Authors.

Society & Lifestyle > Mythology & Folklore Is the Loch Ness Monster real?

Although now living in Australia, I was born and lived in Scotland for thirty years.I have always had a passion for the Scottish Highlands, and when living in Scotland, visited the Highlands yearly. Now from Australia, I try to spend a couple of weeks there every second year. The countryside around Loch Ness is particularly beautiful, but it is a "Dark" beauty, and one can see how rumors of "Nessie" can exist. Sitting by the Loch in late afternoon, in total silence, it is not difficult to get the imagination off and running. Before leaving my Native Country, I spent a lot of time researchi...
