When I look at that photo of myself I feel an almost irresistible urge to smack that smug grin off my face. I can't think of a more fitting photo that puts me so succinctly in a nutshell. I'm a self-opinionated old git.... in fact, worse than that.... I'm a self-opinionated old git who loves writing! If ever there was a valid case for the abolition of the Internet, I'm IT! I've said it before and I'll say it again: the BEST thing about the Internet is that anyone can freely publish anything they like..... The WORST thing about the Internet is that I DO.
Apart from writing, I enjoy drawing, painting, digital art (www.lonetortoise.com), playing guitar, playing my djembe (a little wooden as yet.... I'm very much a beginner), drawing cartoons, sculpture and making things that have no real function. I earn a modest income doing occasional illustration work and graphic design but my 'day job' is as a support worker working with people with autistic spectrum disorder.
I live in the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire, UK. I have three adult children ('adult children' is a bit of a contradiction in terms but you know what I mean) and five grandchildren who don't seem to mind me being a self-opinionated old git......yet (wait 'til they reach their teens).

My passion is ...
Communicating in any medium I can
I know too much about ...
Actually, the only thing I know for sure is that I don't KNOW anything
My parents always told me ...
I was dumped on their doorstep by aliens (joking! They just kept telling me to shut up and give my arse a chance)
My childhood ambition ...
To be the Masked Avenger, then to be an artist, then to liberate humanity.... I finally settled on surviving childhood.
My favorite memory ...
I wouldn't dream of sharing THAT online!
Why I write ...
To be honest, I don't really know how NOT to. If I'm not drawing or designing something of no conceivable use, I'm writing.
What I am reading/watching/listening to ...
Whatever happens to grab my attention at any given moment
My first job ...
Galley Boy on an ore carrier (SS Dukesgarth)
My best moment ...
I don't know yet..... but I'll try to remember to get someone to inscribe it on my tombstone.
My inspiration ...
Ghandi
In cutting winds The bare trees sway The snowdrifts building higher We've fuel enough But for two days Yet I'd give all to see a blaze So put another chairleg on the fire Two days of gazing At the orange glow Of embers that will dim and tire And surrender to The frost and snow But, for now, let's not feel low just put another chairleg on the fire And what a time Our last two days will be! Come sing! Come pluck your merry lyre Let's eat. Let's drink Come dance with me Let's gather round and please feel free To put another chairleg on the fire
