About me

I have met only a few of my fellow Helium Writers since I've joined the site a few years ago. Of course, I had problems with Internet access for a while, but that problem is now solved. I am here almost everyday and hope to meet and talk with many of you.

So...Born in LA in 1967, I left the United States with my family at the age of three to grow up in Saudi Arabia. Before you ask yourself, no, I am not an Army Brat. My father is a Petroleum Engineer which would make me an Oil Brat. And, no, we don't own any oil wells.

But, there is an advantage to living overseas. Travel. I was able to see most of the world while growing up and this leaves its mark on someone. In the first place, I have no prejudices against any skin color. I have friends, or at least acquaintances, of almost every race.

I remember seeing the animals of Africa in their natural habitats and loved it so much I refuse to enter a zoo today. I can't stand to see the animals in cages. I stood at the bottom of the pyramids of Egypt and marveled that humans could have built anything so massive with the tools they had available at the time. The same thing goes for the ruins in both Greece and Italy. And to a lesser extent the rest of Europe (Germany, England, etc.).

I can't really express the impressions these things left on me, but it did give me a sense of the history of the world that I don't think can be obtained by schooling alone, no matter how good the teachers may be.

Anyway, at the age of thirteen, we moved to Singapore (South East Asia) and a whole new world opened before my teenage eyes. During this period, I visited Borneo, Indonesia, Malaysia and Nepal. I won't even try to describe the Himalaya Mountains. Suffice it to say that they are a site that everyone should see during their lifetime. As I marveled at the creativity of man during my earlier years, I was astounded by the majesty of the world the Gods created in a most profound way.

Then, at sixteen, I returned to the States. I finished High School at Cypress Creek HS is NW Houston, attended Texas Tech University and then graduated from Stephen F. Austin in East Texas with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing, just missing my minor in Accounting because of one grade (a D in Accounting II). Oh well...no one's perfect. But I was also tired of accounting by that time and changed my major to Marketing. If I had been smart, I'd have changed to Communications. But that would have meant an additional 12 hours of prerequisite classes before I could even begin the upper level classes I was taking in the Business College. My greatest regret is that I did not make the change to Communications anyway.

Since graduation I have worked in a variety of industries and offices of all kinds, learning from each position, expanding my skills and moving on to better things, for the most part.

In 2003, I married and moved back to California, completing the circle. I now live in the mountains of the Central Valley, near Fresno, and am seeking my dreams. I hope I find them and can grab hold of them when they appear.

Unfortunately, my marriage ended in 2007. I wish my ex every happiness in her future. I will keep my promise and love her forever. She's a wonderful woman. The next man to love her is a lucky guy.

I suppose that I should mention, at this time, that I while I love my country, since returning to it, I have been disappointed by many things. The largest disappointment being the youth of American and their attitude toward education. Having seen countries and met kids who did not have any chance of getting an education, I find the apathy of American kids very disturbing. It has left me with my only true prejudice. Stupidity and Ignorance. If you didn't, or don't, have the brains to take advantage of the educational opportunities this country provides, then I have absolutely NO sympathy for you.

I'll relate a short tale that will hopefully explain this attitude. While in Nepal, Kathmandu to be exact, my friends and I were shopping on what is known as Freak Street. And, yes, it does deserve its name. While we were moving from shop to shop, we were approached by a child, probably about 10 years old. With no opportunity for education, he was supporting himself, and his family, the only way he could. He was trying to sell us Heroin. And what is worse, he was completely strung out on his own product. So, I don't listen to any complaints from American kids, no matter the color of their skin, when they talk about how hard life is on them. I remember that child and explain to them that it can't be as hard as they think it is. The blank looks I get back from them are not nearly as bad as the bleakness in that little boy's eyes.

Religion & Spirituality > Religion & Spirituality (Other) Can God and Darwinism coexist?

Can God and Darwinism coexist? In all honesty, these two concepts already coexist. While one came before the other, as humans have built upon our knowledge of our world, nothing from theory has actually contradicted the other. The major point of contention is the creation of the universe. Darwinism, or Evolution, claims a cosmic accident is responsible for intelligent life on Earth; Creationism, or God, claims that a higher power created everything. Neither will ever gather enough evidence to gain supremacy as the "Only Correct" option. This is because, at the base of the matter, one is ba...
