About me

I teach children with learning disabilities. My decision to become a teacher came about in a round about sort of way.

When I graduated from high school I had it in my mind to become a Kindergarten teacher. The summer following my freshman year of college I taught swimming lessons to children ages 5 through 11, and it was the most horrific summer of my life. Children were running all around the pool, there were some very frightening moments when one of the 5 year olds let go of the wall near the deep end, and the most emotional moment of my first year of teaching lessons two students said "cheecher, cheecher, watch me!" and they bumped heads trying to do back floats...they started to cry and then I started to cry.

A fellow teacher saw me in the water and let me compose myself in the bathroom. After that first year I decided that teaching would not be a good career decision. For the next 5-6 years I pursued an education in the Art and Computer Graphics field, and later changed to an Art History/Curatorial career path. I graduated with my Bachelor's Degree with a major in the latter field.

During my years of college I kept my job as a swimming lessons teacher, because it paid the bills. After a 5 month internship at a museum, in which I also moonlighted as a swimming lessons teacher(daylighted really, because the museum job was in the afternoon), I realized that I enjoyed teaching much more than I enjoyed curating. The rest is history.
