My husband and I live on a small horse farm in northern North Dakota. We raise Quarter Horses intentionally, and barn cats unintentionally.
Our son and his wife live in Illinois. He is a regional sales rep for Yamaha corporation. Some step-grandkids there that we don't know very well, because they are almost grown up and far away.
Our daughter and her family live about four hours away from us. Our granddaughter was 2 pounds 4 ounces when she was born 3 1/2 years ago, and is doing fine. She loves our horses and wants to go out to see them every time she visits, even when it is -30 below. There is a step-granddaughter there, too, but they are both "ours".
My husband works for the county as the Road Superintendent, and I am an Administrative Assistant at a dental office, a job that is fun and challenging. My dentists work four days a week and in the summer the office closes at 3 P.M. so I hope to have a lot of time this summer to devote to the yard, the horses, and the grandkids.
We helped establish the first incorporated mounted search and rescue unit in the state of North Dakota, I enjoy giving riding lessons when weather permits, and, even after his horrible riding accident last year, my husband plans to continue his sideline of training riding horses.

I've heard it said that ignorance is bliss, but for me, that does not apply to the subject of death. I also do not want to become any more informed about it. And yet, as I get older, it is a subject that is often on my mind.
How will I die? Will it be in a car accident as I commute fifty miles one way to work? I've never had an accident....so far. But my cataract-even as I type this, I am aware that I am all but blind in my right eye. It's so dangerous to drive like that.
With the onset of middle age and late night insomnia, shadowy thoughts swirl through my mind. Will it be in ...
