My parents never spanked me. They never expressed anger, only disappointment. The first time my baby-sitter spanked me, my mom got a different one. My teachers never had cause to explain things more than twice, and when my coaches yelled at me I worked harder. Never having experienced child abuse first hand, I was shocked to go to some of my friends' childhood homes where it was normal for Mom to chase the kids around with a wooden spoon.
