My brother's nickname for me is Laurie and her seven stories. In his opinion, I am constantly recycling the stories of our youth and telling them to anyone willing to listen. In part, he is right, although I think his number is way off! Also he discounts, my use of new material, which is pretty much derived from everything I do, hear, see, taste, shop for; etc.
I love to talk, write, daydream, and think. According to my mother, this is why my house is not clean, and my laundry isn't done- to her standards. She is probably right. I'd admit that while I like being at stay at home mom to my five children (yes you heard right- quick start doing the math to compute the age I was when I first became a mom!) I am easily bored by domestic chores.
I have always wanted to be a writer. My earliest "writing" took place when I would walk home from the bus stop. I would "write" stories in my head. I was never on my home street- I was lost in a forest, looking for a cottage, cold and without any money. Or I was rich in a city, seeking out the best hotel on the street. Every day it was different, but I was never a third grader walking home from the bus stop.
After becoming a mom and a wife at nineteen, I continued to pursue a bachelor's degree at The University of South Carolina. When I graduated in 2000, the mother then of two, with a degree in philosophy, it was one of the proudest moments of my life.
Shortly after graduation, my husband and I returned to my hometown in southeastern PA. In between having the other three children, I have worked various temp jobs, including substitute teaching at an elementary school.
Currently, I am at home and very interested in developing a career as writer. Helium has helped me confidence and experience. I have earned money here through both contest and marketplace submissions.
I am extremely interested in meeting other writers! Feel free to contact me.

The thought of flying alone with an infant can be daunting to a single parent. The mere notion of taking a baby on a plane makes many parents, who plan to travel together with their infant, nervous, to say the least. Single parents may be even more reluctant as the idea of being trapped on aircraft thousands of feet above the ground, with no one to help to care for the baby, can be unsettling, to say the least. Some infants may surprise their parents by sleeping through the entire flight, while other babies, who are normally calm and easy going, can completely freak out while flying. The t...
