About me

Who Am I? My name is Ashiqul Saiyed. I am 45 years old; was born, raised and educated in Bangladesh. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Geology, nothing to brag about. Though not very highly institutionally educated, I am a levelheaded guy with clear thinking, as you shall see through my writing.

I grew up in an academic environment with an insatiable urge to read. By the time I was eight years old, I had read over a couple of hundred books and those were not merely fictions appropriate for my age, but two on world history, both I read twice. This happened probably because my mother was a History Professor and the books were around. I became a published author shortly after I was out of high school awaiting my results and planning on getting into a college. During that time, my father's publisher told me one day that since I finished high school and waiting for the college to start, I could try write a book for the children meanwhile. I did and he published it.

I realized that anyone who writes a book has something to convey, has something new or represented in a modified way for the readers to know and is, therefore, a teacher in a vicarious way. I gradually became aware of the fact that I am a very good facilitator, able to whittle very complex situations down to comprehensible component parts.

As a young man teeming with boundless ambition, I was not a bit willing to let go time wasted and not utilized. English is my second language, yet I am most comfortable expressing myself in it. With an ambition to go to Harvard after finishing college in Bangladesh, I devoted my time, besides the time expended studying my major, for the study of the English Language.

The college was an ordeal for me for the fact that it took me eight years to get a Bachelor's Degree, as the university had five sine die closures due to political violence during those eight years. The University Authority could not ascertain any stipulated time frame within which a student could endeavor and earn a degree; rather, it was contingent upon the political weather.

After obtaining my Bachelor's Degree, I did not want to pursue Master's Degree to get stuck again and started a coaching center instead. I named it Roselle Educare and I believe it is still there in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

From 1989 through 1992, I was teaching and wrote two books: (1) English Learning Made Easy, published by Gyankosh and (2) Improve Your Word Power, published by Pallab Publishers.

In 1993, American International School at Baridhara, Dhaka hired me to work as a substitute teacher. I got married within a few months after I started working there and came to the United States as my wife was living in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Here my life took a complete turnaround.

For the last 14 years, I could not do any serious study as I have a family to support. After pumping gases, working in a store buttering bagels, selling shoes at sears, etcetera, I finally landed on a job as a coordinator with Mosaic Trucking Company in New Jersey and I was working at Ford Motor Company's Edison assembly Plant in Edison. The pay was decent and I was happy with the job. In 2001 Penske Logistics hired me to work as an Inventory Control Specialist at Ford Motor Company's Edison Assembly Plant. It was the job that I considered to keep until my retirement. Unfortunately, within a year there were mass layoffs as Ford Motor Company decided to close the plant. For about nine months, I was collecting unemployment and actively seeking jobs. I still don't know why I could not get a job! Ultimately, I was forced to sell my condo and moved to Rockford, Illinois for lower cost of living. The move did not work and I moved to New York City in 2003 and presently, am a self-employed person and struggling to make ends meet.

I have three children and another on the way. Lately, I am having trouble with sleep as I have too much worry about future days as my business took a nosedive. Two weeks ago, I turned 45 and a few days ago, I was thinking about my past and suddenly felt that I have been wasting my mind and should, brushing aside all other worries, be writing again. Within two days, I have come up with my article "Practicable Solution To Immigration Standstill And Border Security Without Constructing The Fences". So, here I am, a man who has just stated exploring at 45 who he is? This my first piece in U. S. A. Your comment on my work shall be highly appreciated: shawrnadeep@yahoo.com

When I look at America, I look at a pair of Lee's.
When I think of America, I remember that about forty years ago PanAm President told the Boeing President, "If you can make it, I will buy it".
When I try to find a reason why America became the World's Unmatched Superpower, I find that once America listened to this paraphrase, "Whoever does not know History, is destined to repeat its mistakes".
When someone complains about being a victim of discrimination at the airport, I don't buy the word. I call it zeroing in on.
I have a plan to write a book, it is in my head. The title of the book will be "Where Is My America".
