Just a bit about myself. I'm a 25 year old English graduate, and I'm essentially using Helium to give myself some practice with writing for a larger audience and (fingers crossed! - in vain...) some exposure. I'd like to get into journalism, and hope publishing articles here will give me to confidence to get this done!

tangential historical facts. For example, do YOU know what happened to Vichy French Indochina during the Second World War, when the Japanese arrived? I didn't either, and it took me a long time to find out that, even though they were allies, the Japanese nonetheless 'liberated' the colony from the Nazi-allied French. Weird, huh?

to try and best express myself to the world, when merely speaking words themselves can sometimes fail me.

my favourite authors include Iain (M) Banks, Haruki Murakami, Ayn Rand, Isaac Asimov, to name but a few. Also alternative Eighties music.
Coming from a slightly more secularised state (in practice, though in theory a more theological one due to our having a state religion), the United Kingdom, I would like to add my opinion to this issue. It is bemusing to some from outside the US the furore that the removal of the Bible or Biblical references from civic practices has caused there, especially amongst the so-called "Moral Majority". Bemusing, in no small part, due to the fact that America should, on paper at least, be the most secular nation in the world. Why is this?
