Hi, I'm the channel manager of the poetry channel. Hopefully, we can share a few ideas and help make the world a more interesting place. I graduated from West Virginia University many years ago, and I'm now in my mid-forties and trying to regain some of my writing skills. Granted, there's plenty of rust, but I think I'm starting to turn the corner.
As inspirations go, I think the mid-forties part and the fact that the world seems to have lost its collective mind both rank near the top. Not surprisingly, a lot of the things that I start turn into tales of a childish, middle-aged man seeking past glory in all of the usual places. Naturally, he usually fails miserably and moves on to his next hair-brained scheme. I suppose the fact that I do a lot of stuff in first person leads to a logical conclusion: I'm just a character in a growing list of poems who tries abnormally hard to be normal. Does that make sense?

"Zambezi Falls" In a kayak, quite uneasy, I set a course down the Zambezi, Swiftly went the passing miles, Skirting hungry crocodiles, Passing by a makeshift shelter While the boat rocked helter-skelter Through a land both great and raw, I came upon a waterfall... As I fell, I gave a squawk- Like Sherlock Holmes at Reichenbach That woke the natives from their sleep, Leaving me in trouble, deep They pulled me from the raging water, Pawned me off on someone's daughter, Declared a state of matrimony- Thus began the ceremony... But I've the smile and the manners Of Terry Hall and Jerry Dammers...
