When reading others' articles, I appreciate a balanced point of view along with an effort to be comprehensive. When writing my own articles, I try to avoid echoing others' viewpoints while considering just how to organize what I want to say. I motivate myself by knowing two things: that the knowledge is out there somewhere already, and that I have an obligation to connect it in my own way so that others after me can do the same.

I voted in my first presidential election in 1976. In all the elections since then, I have to admit that when I voted for Barack Obama this year, it was the first time I voted for qualities I liked in a candidate instead of against traits I disliked in all the other candidates. It was easy to feel good that Barack Obama is a member of a minority, of course, and that he's young, and a family man.
