I started writing short stories and poems in junior high school, and have continued to do so simply for my own enjoyment for many years. Helium.com is my first attempt to publish anything in a public venue.

I know a 14 year old boy who thought Arnold Schwarznegger was/is the President of the United States. When I explained Mr. Schwarznegger is actually the governor of California, and that he would _never_ be President of the United States, I found I had to explain further WHY he would never be President. Yes, Virginia, our young people are being 'dumbed down'. There is no single reason or cause for the decline of the educational system in this country, but the bulk of the responsibility lies with federal and state governments which try to pigeon-hole each student to fit a generic mold.
