About me - Petra Sando

aboutme

I am a professional writer - in the making!

Years ago, my literature teachers in Germany put down the basics for the aspirations I have as a writer today. Back then, I liked what I wrote, but I just did it because I had to - for school. Teenagers - you know!

I wrote a lot of my experiences into a journal - on and off - for years...

In 1997 after I married and finished college, my husband and I moved to Idaho, USA. From there, we traveled the U.S. for 45 days on a Harley Davidson Sportster and I started once again jotting down everything mentionable that happened on our adventurous trip.

Nothing else happened until I got pregnant with our daughter. For a while I picked up writing again..but just for a while...

In March 2001 my beloved grandmother Martha passed away and my love for scripture sparked the idea to create a Christian website from 'HTML'-scratch, writing about my religious beliefs, the bible and prayer, and dedicate it to her. (Feel free to visit the link on my favorites list.)

Finally, just a few short months ago I officially realized that I really am a writer at heart. I discovered Helium.com on-line and found it to be most rewarding! Now, I want to be a famous writer so much, that I drive my whole family crazy with the constant sound of ever-repeating keystrokes from my laptop, whenever I find time. I often write until deep into the night, following the principles of a perfectionist, writing, reviewing and editing numerous pieces of art made from letters, thoughts and indescribable passion.

On a professional level I pride myself of the following:

1.) I have a 2-year diploma in Graphics and Design from Germany (which involved successful completion of classes in advertisement strategies and design.)

2.) I am fluent in both German (native) and English, so I read and write in both, as well.
3.) I am the creator of a Christian website, featuring many personal stories and analysis's of scriptural material from the bible and other sources.

4.) As an Intern in the Training and Development Department I have put together a lot of customer-service related presentations and some training scripts for the Billion-Dollar company I work for.

I just love to read and research and draw inspiration from every bit of information I can gather; whether that is a text, a picture, an environment or an emotion caused by what I experience. I read a plethora of books, magazines and articles on the Internet. Furthermore, I like listening to audio books. After indulging the 'best' of Zig Ziglar, the famous motivational speaker, on audio disk, I am now enrolled in "automobile university" - the ultimate opportunity for a long-distance commuter like me to learn a bit more every single day *wink*!

When you get to know me you'll realize, that I am a person who can't live without music, drawing, crafts , the fine arts, motorcycling, traveling, camping and the outdoors. I have too many other interests to list here, but I'll go fishing with you, gold-prospecting, jogging, or I might show you how to make soy candles and natural soap, just to name a few! I am at my best when I can fidget around and multi-task. And whenever the sense of adventure grips me - I write about all of those things - even while actually doing or experiencing them. I also have an affinity for controversial ideas, even conspiracy theories. I'll write about events of political interest as much as about "God and the world"! And when emotions take over, they'll usually lead to a great piece of poetry.

I guess I am eclectic when it comes to article titles. I write about whatever inspires and challenges me!

Pen and paper are my constant companions, along with my cell phone, a 'Jott.com' subscription for those thoughts that leave as fast as they come (often without being jotted down), and a voice recorder for little self-talks' on things that I want to put down on paper later.
Like Naomi Rhode, former president of the National Speakers Association, said: "They say, intelligent people keep a pen and paper handy at all times' - I just keep it close by, in case it might help the intelligence ;-)!" I couldn't agree more *chuckle*!

Well, that's me!

My parents always told me ...

...to put my book down and get to work!

My childhood ambition ...

...was to become a veterinarian, surprisingly the same thing my daughter wants to be when she grows up. I am not a vet, but we sure have a lot of animals at home 2 dogs, a barn cat, a pygmy goat, cows, a fish, a bird, a snake and a toad that drops by our driveway once in a while!

My favorite memory ...

Christmas after I found out that I was pregnant for the first time when my mother-in-law (who initially let me know, that it was likely that a first pregnancy may not be successful, due to several bad experiences she had in the past) presented my with a "Motherhood 2000" maternity shirt. She finally accepted that I was blessed with a healthy and uncomplicated pregnancy, and her present to me was the reason why ended up having a great bonding experience between her and me that Christmas of 1999

Why I write ...

I can't possibly let all those creative thoughts go to waste I have to write them down to express myself, to stay sane and to help others with my knowledge!

What I am reading/watching/listening to ...

I am currently reading the 50th Anniversary Edition of Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged" and listening to the audio version of "The Fountain Head" by the same author. Every so often I seek inspiration in the "Chicken Soup" books by Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen. Actually, I am reading all the time (in books, magazines and on the Internet) about everything that interests me from Astronomy over Geology over Psychology and Science to Zoology.

My first job ...

...was being a relief mail carrier for 5 weeks during one summer break and a waitress and kitchen help at an outdoor castle Museum in Germany the following year. My first real job, however, was being a bakery help and cashier - lame compared to what came later!

My best moment ...

... happens whenever I discover another great talent in myself, especially if I am able to share it! God has blessed me with abundance!

My inspiration ...

...is drawn from great stories, people, nature, holidays, news or simple words or feelings - pretty much everything. The little things are what counts in life!

Writing is an obsession for me. Every so often it grips my heart and the thoughts start flowing from my fingers like water streams down from a waterfall. I just have to keep moving; nothing can stop me. Obstacles cause me to go into a new direction, downfalls make me tumble upside down and see things from a new perspective.

I twist and turn in playful observation of life, like I do in utmost agony when I see death. I understand and I accept, like water that conforms to any shape. My thoughts travel from place to place, just like water, which can be carried in any container; I discover ...
