Mixing soda with Mentos can give you an explosive result. But you have to use the right type of soda for maximum effect. I saw a Mythbusters episode once where they experimented with this and figured out how to get the biggest volcano effect.

You need Mentos and Diet Coke or Diet Pepsi. Regular Pepsi or Coke will work, but not nearly as well as diet. I have heard other people say that you can use any type of similar candy and any type of carbonated drink.
