For many years debt has been growing faster than incomes throughout the western world. We were constantly assured our financial systems could deal with the strain. Then, suddenly, in 2007, US credit started to collapse. The for sale signs stating - Buy now, foreclosure property, buy now- appeared everywhere.

An explanation of this total collapse returns to 1997 when Americans borrowed a colossal $9 trillion against the expected increasing values of their homes. This surge of credit contributed greatly to the prosperity western economies enjoyed for the past decade.
