I am 23 years old and live in the UK. I work as a nurse on a busy trauma and orthopaedic ward.
At college, I studied science, social science and modern foreign language, before studying for a BN (Hons) at university.
In the past I have worked as a lifeguard, which I absolutely loved and a carer for older people with Alzheimer's, which I wasn't so keen on.
I also voluneteer for a youth organisation, which involves a couple of eveings a week, and some weekends. My primary role is to teach first aid and to assist with sports, however I am involved with the administration side too, organising the trainging programme for the young people and ensuring applications and returns for events are completed and returned on time. Being one of the two only female members of staff there, with the other female having been away for the last few months, it is my responsibilty to look after the female young people, particaulrly when we go away for the weekend. I also enjoy organising extra activites, such as ice skating, which the young people have the opportunity to enjoy.
I have many plans for the future. I would love to do more volunteer work, I'm not sure what yet, but definitely with people. I would also like to travel abroad and expereince the culture of different countries. I have been abroad before, but always to toursit areas. Careerwise, I intend to join the military as a nursing officer. Failing that, I would like to return to university and train as a midwife.

In the UK, there is discussion about whether experienced nurses should have the ability to discuss with patients whether or not they wish to be resuscitated in the event that their heart stops, and to sign the appropriate documentation, thereby informing other members of the healthcare team that the patient does not wish to be resuscitated. Currently only consultants and GPs are able to do this. I have read this on the website of a reputable media source, which also has an area where members of the public are able to comment on such articles. Some of the comments on there were so derogotar...
