About me - L. Woodrow Ross

About me

L. Woodrow Ross retired from manufacturing management, and is concentrating on his writing and photography. He is an active outdoorsman, with interests in writing, photography,fly-fishing, hunting, travel, kayaking and biking.

He and his lovely wife Margaret have three wonderful daughters, three great sons-in-law, and nine of the best grandchildren. They lead a happy, fulfilling family life in upstate South Carolina.

They travel extensively to Montana, Canada and Alaska (often in pursuit of trout and salmon). His work formerly took him into central Mexico, where he developed a network of friends and business associates. They were a strong influence in his first novel (Return to Oak Hill).

A second book has been published that brings together 80 of his articles, short stories, instructional articles, poetry and more. It is a nostalgic look at several years of work that is packed into a book that any outdoorsman would love to read. The title is "Fly Rods, Good Dogs and Straight-Shooting Guns".

Ross has a third novel in work that focuses on South Carolina and Montana and chronicles a life-changing event in a young couple's life. It is about half finished and Ross feels that it may be his best yet.

A journal and camera are always close at hand to record the exciting daily events, and provide a ready source of material for his writing. For two years he wrote an outdoor/travel column for a local newspaper, the Travelers Rest Chronicle before beginning his current role as an outdoor reporter for the Anderson Independent Mail newspaper. His passion is recording events so that they may be shared with others.

He currently has landscape photos on SCIway.net with a poem about South Carolina. One of his photos of the Chattooga River was in the December, 2007 issue of Paddler Magazine. Ross had a feature article on handgun hunting published in South Carolina Sportsman magazine's September, 2009 issue.

Check out more photos and articles on his website(www.lwoodrowross.com). He is a featured blogger on the new Greenville Online site (www.upstatehuntandfish.com). These websites offer contact information for his fly fishing guide service and instructional booklets about fly fishing.

Ross is available for speaking engagements and offers fly casting and fly tying instruction.
