The beginning of our hike started at the corner of route 1, Washington Blvd. and Levering Avenue in Howard County, Maryland. Levering Ave. is a bike route for Patapsco State Park. We hiked roughly 3-4 miles from the intersection to the river. Along the way we passed the historic Thomas Viaduct. Built in 1835 it is the world's largest multiple arched stone railroad bridge with an arc. Originally called "Latrobe's Folly," it was expected to collapse in a cloud of dust as the first train rolled across.
