I grew up in a small village in Kent, escaped played in a few band bands, gave up on rock n' roll superstardom when it became obvious I possessed neither the talent, the looks or the willingness to be the centre of attention at all costs. I then went off to university and became a computer geek, which lead me to consulting jobs in London, Brighton and New York.
Around then I worked for one of the big finance houses and was amazed to discover that they make money on the commissions they charge, not on the bonuses from doing a good job, so thought I had better figure out how to invest my own money. I started buying property and figuring out the stock market. Around 2004 I found I was making more money doing this than working as an IT consultant with a lot less effort, so I left.
