About me - Tina Shelnutt

About me

I am a mother of two wonderful grown children and have two awesome grandchildren. I live in Georgia with my husband Roy, mother (Louise) and have a large loving family.

I love to write, sing, travel, do art/crafts, and spend time with family and friends. My inspiration comes from my unique life experiences, including a unique upbringing, the loss of my father at age 13, watching the strength of my mother as she survived with her six children and taught us to never give up.

We've lived life, lost life, survived the odds, and became stronger through each event. I can only hope to be like my mother who is the heart and soul of what every mother should be.

I married my fourth grade sweet heart and had my first child at age fifteen (I know!). My daughter became ill with Meningitis at age one. After two weeks of fighting for her life, she was left with 80% brain damage and was a total vegetable. We have experienced many miracles including her regaining eyesight, hearing, to eventually knee walking.

A passion burns inside of me to touch lives and help others to overcome the many trials we have to face in this crazy world of ours. Using words and first hand experiences, I can give someone hope and help them to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Through years of prompting from family and friends to pursue writing and the publication of my novel, I have finally decided to 'Go for it'.

Creative Writing > Reflections Reflections: What would you consider to be the most important things that have been a major inspiration in your life and why?

Inspiration for me is found in the life of people who have overcome the odds regardless of the hindrances, which they have at hand. A disabled child, a parent who takes time to love and enjoy their children, an act of sacrifice and giving without expectations of receiving compensation of any kind. My mother is a truly inspiring person. After my father died at age 36, Mom had to raise six kids on her own. She was faced with many trials and struggles, and yet somehow managed to keep us all fed, clothed and met all our needs. She taught us about God, love, respect, kindness, courtesy, importa...
