No matter what directions or activities I get hooked up in, writing remains a magnet for me. Sometimes I breeze through it when caught up in the passion of the subject or title. At other times, I struggle through articles when energy is pulling my thoughts elsewhere. But always, I want to write 'like I mean it', research the subject well to make a difference in the readers' life, and give it the best I have to offer.
I studied and qualified in Creative Writing, Freelance Proofreading and Freelance Advance Journalism to find a slot for my penchant for words. Honestly, if I didn't have a laptop, pen or paper, I think I would write in the soil beneath my feet.
Equalling my love of writing is my passion to be creative. My brother became a published children's book author www.picturebooktom.com and this opened Aladdin's cave for me. It directed my creativity into related crafts and worksheets for Round Fish Square Bowl and The Sorcerer's Apprentice. But my biggest creative buzz has been creating the set for one of my brother's other stories: 'Sweet and Sour Pork'. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBY0dnC1o30&feature=youtu.be www.picturebooktom.com I love it!
My awaeness for encouraging childrens' literacy grew, and is still growing. It is so important so I created a website that offered some tips for relating picture books to life and creativity. www.readingpicturebooks.vpweb.com.au But it hasn't stopped there.
An opportunity came to work with adults with low literacy and numeracy skills. This is a heartbreaker because words are everywhere, and they are huge stumbling blocks for some people. My role is a supportive one but it is a chance to also write resumes for them and hope that positive pathways enter their lives.
In essence, I hope my writng and creativity makes for a better world. My favourite Helium articles are the blended ones of experience and facts entwined together. Like, 'How to create a butterfly garden' and 'How to make natural seed bombs'. But there are others too that tug at the painful times in life - they matter too because the readers are important to me.

Natural seed bombs resemble baby potatoes in appearance and are loaded with seeds, plant nutrients and a growing medium. A number of them will fit onto the palm of an adult’s hand and anyone can join in the fun and creative adventure of making them: gardeners, non-gardeners, children, adults, environmentalists and community groups. The wonder of making natural seed bombs is that you can make a difference to neglected or hard-to-reach areas of land at home, in your community or when travelling through urban or country areas lacking in vegetation, wildflowers, native flora, herbs.
