About me - Mazzini

About me

I am orignally from Cwmbran in South Wales. I have lived in Liverpool for the last five years, graduating with a BA in History last summer from the University of Liverpool.
I love watching, reading and writing about football, pouring over stats and facts since I was a boy. I follow the red half of Merseyside, Liverpool and go home and away to watch Wales get beat on a semi-regular basis. My second love is music, it is too hard to explain a collection that has taken many years to take shape and to say it is eclectic is the answer that the majority of people would give.....but I guess that is the only way to describe it! I try and get out to watch as many gigs as I can, mainly in small venues. There is nothing like finding a band or artist that you had never heard of before that night, and loving them from that moment on.
Both of these things keep me going and give me pleasure, making life a joy at times, and also a pain when watching the football.

Briefly me

My passion is ...

Football.

I know too much about ...

Football stats and facts.

My parents always told me ...

to work hard and try my best.

My childhood ambition ...

Strangely to manage Liverpool, playing was a secondary thought, probably because I was never that good.

My favorite memory ...

The moment Michael Owen scored to make it 2-1 in the 2001 FA Cup final, I was behind the goal going crazy.

Why I write ...

To satisfy creative urges that surface now and then and because i'm told by some that they enjoy my writing, meaning there is some talent there to try and nurture.

What I am reading/watching/listening to ...

Reading Crime and Punishment/ Watching The Wire, which is the best thing that's ever been on TV/ Listening to Lykke Li and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.

My first job ...

Helping out my father, he is a signwriter.

My best moment ...

Along with the previous favourite memory, a personal best was finally graduating last year after five years and a tough time inbetween.

My inspiration ...

Mostly myself as if you can't inspire yourself what is the point, but also the memory of grandparents and my family who are still here, want to make them proud. (how incredibly cheesy of me!).

Politics, News & Issues > Soccer News & Opinion What's more important in soccer: Style or success?

Everyone wants to see their side play attractive football, but no one wants to see their side play attractive football and win nothing. Look at Keegan's Newcastle side of the 1990's; they will always be known as a flair team that went out to score more goals than the opposition and attack throughout, but they ended up winning nothing because of it. When you go to watch your team play you want to win, personally I am not bothered if my side wins 1-0 in an ugly way, as long as they win. The problem is that successful sides immediately become the team to hate as fans of rival sides are enviou...
