Tragedy of worms

I had no garden, just a shared balcony in a built up urban area. But I was Green! I scorned the "suburban" pot flowers popular with my neighbours. I grew nasturtiums but they were for eating: leaves and flowers in salads. My friend from the country taught me to grow lettuce in pots and to take just as many leaves as needed from the growing plant - cut and come again another day. I did placate the neighbours by putting my enormous old spider plant out there. It looked pretty and obligingly had lots of baby spiders, which dangled fetchingly over the railings.
