About me - Kathleen Gilligan

About me

I'm a college student living in New Jersey. I just finished up my BA at Rutgers University (majoring in English, minoring in both Writing and English Literature), and am continuing on to pursue my MA at Rutgers' Graduate school.  Previously I received a AA (English) at Camden County College.  Workwise I've worked in both a law office and a bookstore, but currently I am a tutor for a teenager with Down Syndrome.

My published work includes my poem "Lipstick Kisses" which was published in the Camden County College literary magazine, and my poem "Books" which was submitted to and published in "Anthology of Poetry by Young Americans".

Awhile  back I discovered Helium's College Writing Contest. With a lot of hard work, and a bit of luck, I won 3rd place in week five, and fourth place in weeks six and seven, which allowed me to place 11th out of all the participants. I've recently started writing for Helium again and am participating in a new Creative Writing contest.

Besides writing, I enjoy watching and playing soccer. One of my first articles here was about the U.S. Women's National Team. I also love to read and you can find several of my book reviews here as well. (My room is more books than anything else! 1700 and counting...) Right now my favorite authors include Charlaine Harris, Jane Austen, and Mary Renault.
