As President of Words of Life Creative Services, LLC, the lion's share of my time is spent making other people look good. I ghostwrite books on real estate, marketing, credit, and just about anything else a client might request. In addition, I write E-books, special reports, website copy, and long form sales letters.
In January, 2008 I finished writing a real estate book for a nationally-known real estate investor/platform speaker that is being published by John Wiley & Sons Publishers. That book is due in bookstores July 21.
While ghostwriting pays the bills, it's not where my heart is. You can only use the phrase "real estate investor" so many times in one lifetime without getting bored to the point of tears.
What keeps me going creatively is the dream of walking into a bookstore and seeing a novel written by me on the shelf. I frankly don't care how many copies it sells; I'm in it for love, not money.
I've written a number of short stories that I'm currently shopping around (which is code for "I haven't sold it yet so it's sitting in a slush pile on the floor of some unseen editor's office") and I'm currently working on my inaugural novel, "David's Chamber".
In between working on paid writing engagements and finding a little free time for my creative labors of love, I enjoy chasing two of my 4 kids around the house or yard. (My 15 year old son and my 11 year old daughter have decided they're too cool to have dad chasing them:)

My passion is ...
writing. It won the straw poll. Option #2 was listening to credit card pitches during dinner.
I know too much about ...
absolutely nothing. Or was it too little about absolutely everything? Let's go with the first one. It makes me look more intellectual.
My parents always told me ...
to treat others as I wanted to be treated. Aren't you glad I don't like being pummeled about the head...
My childhood ambition ...
to be a writer. Note to Mrs. Frey: Thanks for letting me peck away on that old typewriter in the front of your classroom. I wasn't actually writing. I was working on my writing-avoidance skills. Thanks to the faith you had in me, I can procrastinate with the best of 'em.
My favorite memory ...
solving the Rubik's cube. Followed closely by learning how to clean that little screen on the end of a water faucet.
Why I write ...
to get a story out of my head onto the written page exactly as I have it choreographed in my mind. I'm still writing, so I guess that means I still haven't figured it out.
What I am reading/watching/listening to ...
Currently I'm reading "If You Want to Walk on Water (You Have to Get Out of the Boat), watching my kids grow up, and listening to the music of Big Daddy Weave (the Sultan of Slim, my hero and personal trainer)
My first job ...
A Hardee's restaurant in Quincy, Illinois. (Which explains my need for a personal trainer).
My best moment ...
It sounds cliched, but I like to think my best moment is yet to come. If I'm wrong, don't tell me. It's one of the reasons I put on clean underwear every day. (OK...most days)
My inspiration ...
Jesus Christ. There's no greater inspiration than to be more like the Great Physician. And that's no joke.
It's not particularly surprising that Illinois Governor Pat Quinn has pinned his hopes of pulling the State of Illinois through this economic crisis by raising taxes like never before. The quick and easy solution that our so-called political leaders turn to every time they hit a financial wall (that they created) is to extract more money from the hard-working citizens that they're supposed to represent. While there's no disputing the fact that the Illinois state budget is in a state of crisis, there's also no denying that the economy is in a tailspin. Does he really think his plan will do ...
