Olivia's life included childhood trauma and experience in a foster care system, not to mention a "mean" step mother. She still survived, in fact she thrived as her life kept changing colors, and then it began to shine.
Those accumulative experiences gave Olivia the independent streak that she has as well as the ability to see, feel and to write about life in a different way.
To see Olivia one often mistakenly thinks that she was born with a silver spoon in her mouth, but she will tell you, that's because of the man that she married. This love and the birth of three sons gave Olivia the foundation for even more.
With courage and conviction she pursued another love, that of health care. Olivia returned to school to become a Registered Nurse during the time it was rare for a woman to pursue their education and be considered a good wife and mother. She will tell you that it was only because of the loving support of her husband that she accomplished this goal.
Olivia always loved writing as evidenced in her collection of her early work. It lies in a box along with yellowed newspaper and magazine articles that she has collected all of her life.
But Olivia says that words mean more to her when they are about people and feelings. When she shares stories about her professional role as a nurse, she will tell you "my most inspirational moments were gifted to me unknowingly by my patients." " I have always cared for my patients as if they were my own. " This is how I believe health care should be given by every professional." " It is a caring responsibility."
Olivia has been a contributing author for Chicken Soup for the Nurses Soul - Second Dose. She has been a writer for the editorial board for her hospital's nursing journal. As well as a contributing writer for the community newspaper.
