About me - Matt Train

About me

I am a qualified Spanish and Portuguese to English translator. I manage a translations agency based in West London called TranslateMedia and I do translation work on a freelance basis.

I am a generalist, working in a great variety of fields. My clients include Palgrave Macmillan, The Champions League, various translation agencies and some private clients. I have excellent research skills which are invaluable to me when translating, and I am continuously building resources.

I write short stories and essays in my spare time, as I find it's a good way to offload some information from my mind, which my girlfriend tells me is often a little too active! From a personal point of view I'm keen to keep up with contemporary ideas and developments in all fields, from ethnobotany to astronomy, from bio-science to high-technologies, and I even maintain an interest in football.

William Tyndale. If you don't know, read up. This guy was a religious rebel in the UK in the 1500s. He laid the seeds for a cultural movement that freed people from worshipping in Church by printing and distributing his English translation of the Bible covertly, at a time when the only way you or I would have had access to the good book would have been listening to a Priest read it out in Latin. His translation was very good. He was killed for it. In the same year, Henry VIII split from Rome....
