First, a little about my writing. Like most people on this site, I imagine, what I've posted is mostly raw, largely unedited writing (at the very least, self-edited). In short, it's writing practice. It is a hodge podge of long forgotten journal entries, stories started but never finished until just before posting, and work that's somewhere along the lines of a draft or ideas for more scholarly work. As such, comments are welcome. That said, I won't say I don't like some of it. So tactful and constructive comments are more welcome than others.
And now, just a brief bio on me. I've spent my life in academia studying political science (with a PhD. from Univesity of Maryland) and I've spent a lot of energy to stay there. It has become part of who I am. Meanwhile, I've occasionally entertained the thought of being "a writer." Ah, but how to be both political scientist and writer? Well, the answer is, do each part time of course. This means I'm relatively poor and excel at neither profession. I still like to think I might excel in both endeavors however. Hubris I'm sure. On the other hand, I've got a few more pieces of the puzzle to put together, but excellence in life (i.e. happiness) seems to follow from these two pursuits.
Oh, did you want to know things like, where I was born and stuff? Nah , I didn't think so. In any case, it may help to know that I grew up in the suburbs and now live in Philadelphia. Urban life agrees with me and I with it. Which is nice.

There had been some mix up at the funeral parlor, so all the mourners were at the church by 10:00 a.m. and had to wait until nearly 11:30 for the service to begin. The priest had pushed for services to begin at 10:00 even without Matthew since he had to preside over a wedding at 3:00. Matthew' wife, Melissa, said that she was so sorry that Matthew's death fro...
