Hi, my name is Art Gibson, Jr., and I'd like to thank-you for stoping on my "About Me" page. My wife of over 37 years, Karen, and I have 2 grown daughters, a grown son currently serving in the Navy Reserve, and 2 granddaughters. Disabled due to cancer in my left leg in 2004, I now spend my time taking care of the house for my wife and am completely domesticated (ha! ha!). Having recently become empty nester's, we are trying to make all the adjustments that state of being brings.
Prior to joining Helium, my writing experience consisted of 9 years technical writing in the US Navy, and approximately 2 years for Gateway Computers. And consisted primarily of writing "Standard Operating Procedures" (SOPs), informative documents pertaining to specific job skills & tasks, training materials, and similar job related reports, memos, and directives and articles in various base newspapers. I've also written Christian poetry. 3 of my poems were set to music by a close friend and have been performed in various local churches.
I retired from the Navy in 1990, after 20 years on active duty. Since then I've worked as an insurance agent, customer service representative for Gateway Computers, a variety of temporary positions, and in a bowling center.
I've enjoyed writing since I was in my early teens; but for the most part had always done it just for myself or in a relatively closed community. Helium has given me and everyone else the opportunity to write on a wide variety of subjects and to see how my writing stacks up against others. I really enjoy American History, Politics, the Military, my religious faith, and various other subjects. Most of all I enjoy talking about my family and spending time with them, especially the grandchildren.

My favorite place as a child had to be my grandparents farm. While they only lived approximately 100 miles from my parents, going to the farm was like stepping into another world. Going from my backyard to their farm was like stepping through a mirror to a land of infinite possibilities. To my young eyes and mind the farm was immense, stretching from one horizon to the next. One of my favorite things on the farm, was an old broken down wagon that sat in the barnyard. From my perch on the wooden seat, I could live out most of my childhood fantasies. One day, I might be a Wells Fargo Agent g...
