In western culture it is relatively rare for men to wear skirts. Clothing is very gender specific, and many men have deep-seated insecurities regarding their masculinity. They fear the possibility that they may be perceived to be homosexual. Even if that isn't a specific fear, there is the concern that gay men might proposition them - a fate worse than death, as they see things.
