How do you get services for your deaf child? Simply put, get it written into the IEP (Individual Education Plan). If it is not written in the IEP, it does not have to be done and most likely won't be done. It doesn't matter if the service is a hearing aide, speech services, or another communication device. If it is not in the IEP, legally the school does not have to do it. I have 12 years experience as an educational interpreter in the school systems and I have always found it sad to see how hard parents have to fight to get services for their child.
