: About Me

I begin my love for food as my family gathered at the table each evening. My career began as a server in an all night diner at the age of thirteen. I have been involved with specialty foods, restaurants and nightclubs ever since.

Thirty-two years ago I embarked on a journey of unimaginable proportions. My marriage to a fellow jazz musician forever changed that strict Scots/Irish American world of mine. Proud parents we are of an accomplished poet and Tuskegee graduate, and another accomplished poet who works diligently on Muslim women's health issues.

I began writing poetry, essays and short stories in grade school. I expanded that by writing lyrics for my husband some twenty-five years ago. My career in food and management led to designing menus, creating recipes and writing employee instructional manuals for new enterprises.

Helium has given me the opportunity to expand my writing horizons while developing my talent. The community on Helium has opened up a world of new pathways and venues to pursue. Helium contests and its marketplace have graced my wallet with extra dollars as a reward for my progress. This is just the beginning.
