If I didn't write, I'd be just another potato baking slowly in the glow of a monitor. Writing is rebellion against expense reports, against form letters, against the millions of regulated words I have to plunk down.

For me, parties have always been more of a military operation than a fun time. At my own 11th birthday party, I spent the day stalking around the petting zoo ensuring that everyone had exactly the same amount of grain for the goats, pigs, and chickens.
