To be blunt, the idea of "forcing" UK citizens to pledge allegiance to the queen is utterly ridiculous. The British monarchy is an outdated relic of the middle ages and has no place in the political landscape of the 21st Century; so why should an irrelevant institution gain the obedience of the UK population? We should be quite cynical about recent plans to introduce a pledge of allegiance in schools and the workplace, and appears to read as a piece of political opportunism, or an attempt to strengthen the mark of the state on society.
