When to shut up is right before you speak, every time: allow yourself to think your words through before committing yourself to them - not with an eye to tweaking the theatrical and glamouring your grammar but to see if it is reasonable, and considerate, and what you truly intend. This is not only fantastic advice but also impossible to achieve long term, certainly speaking for myself at least, but wouldn't it be a nicer world?
