I sit here alone, Enclosed in these four walls, And I am safe. Here I see no eyes glaring, No screeching voices, Whose words, like daggers, can kill. No one here is celebrating my defeat. As I sit in the dark, Barely able to make out my own reflection in the mirror, Perfection is put on hold, Tears are let loose, I am exposed. Covered windows reveal reality. I am terrified of the light. Inevitably, it arrives and my haven is destroyed. Walking out into a new day is draining, But I am escaping slowly with each step. And it is then I realize, No one ever knew I was imprisoned.
