The sonnet was the first formal poetry form I decided to seriously tackle and master. I remembered learning about it in high school (a long, long time ago). I remembered reading Shakespeare back then. Fourteen lines, iambic pentameter - how hard could it be? Well, for one thing, I wasn't even sure I knew what iambic pentameter was, so I did some Internet research, looked up the terms and then read Shakespeare. It didn't take too long before I was hearing the meter, one unstressed syllable followed by one stressed syllable - five times per line. It goes like this da-DUM da-DUM da-DUM da-DUM...
