About me - Pete Davison

About me

Hello, and thanks for dropping by.

To paraphrase Terry Pratchett, I was born in 1981 and am still not dead, and as long as I remain not dead I intend to continue writing.

I write because I can and not for any other reason. To be able to communicate your feelings and opinions through writing is a gift to be treasured, as is an imagination which can dream up strange new worlds and characters with which to populate them. I have written all my life for various reasons - be it for work, academia or simply for pleasure - and I have never grown tired of it.

My interests are video games, board games, music, technology and, as you may have surmised from the above paragraph, writing. You'll find a mixture of my factual, opinion and creative pieces here on Helium as to date I've found it to be a fabulous outlet for self-expression, and also to brush up on one's skills!

Some of my creative pieces are autobiographical in nature. Others are pure imagination. I'll leave you to determine which is which.

Briefly me

My passion is ...

Gaming, music and technology.

I know too much about ...

Video game trivia.

Why I write ...

Self-expression, along with sharing my passions.

My first job ...

Mopping up sick and collecting glasses in a grotty bar in Southampton. Nice.

My best moment ...

The day I resigned from teaching with a four-page long letter explaining everything that is wrong with the profession.

My inspiration ...

Music. Nothing is more inspirational than an emotionally affecting piece of music. It can take you places, it can conjure up memories and it can make you FEEL.

As most followers of the video game industry will happily tell you regularly, video games have come a very long way since their humble beginnings on a black and white screen making "bleep-bloop" noises. One might even say that they have made greater progress than films have in a shorter space of time, which means that, as a medium, it's had to grow up fast. One of the side-effects of this rapid adolescence is the diversification of "gaming" as a medium, an art form or whatever you would like to call it. Whereas once games were just that - competitive challenges either between several peopl...
