About me

I'm like Hunter S. Thompson without the mescaline I write as a biological process. Like peeing, but a lot more fun to share. I would like to have an implant so I can write just by subtle movements of my left pinky finger. My fiancee insists she will leave me should technology ever achieve such a level and I allow myself to be modified. She clearly has an anti-transhuman agenda. I am a dilettante, being fascinated by a dozen diverse topics (currently fetishistic about human evolution), but expert at none. Well, I do not exactly suck at writing, but given the volume of my attempts, I am bound to hit a bulls-eye now and again. My girlfriend once created a fictional better girlfriend for me named Isabelle Hemingway. This fictive muse had purple hair with blonde roots, was the granddaughter of Elizabeth Bishop (the surname Hemingway was just a delightful coincidence), she "wore appropriate jewelry" (I don't know what this means), and was poetical. My actual girlfriend is a nationally ranked ninja (who will be competing in the 2012 Olympics) who is embarassed to silence by her amazing ability to sing. She, evidently, does not wear appropriate jewelry. I live in a shoebox apartment with her, the ashes of a spooky grayhound, and two Schroedinger's cats. I run the site Xenex (http://www.xenex.org), which will likely tell you more about me than this profile. Visiting grants you one papal indulgence from my cat Seltzer, who seems as likely a new pope as any.

At first, it was a thought experiment, whether one could develop a language that lacked or made cumbersome descriptions of violent acts as a means to reduce the acts themselves. I was partly inspired by Toki Pona, a contrived language with under two hundred words that forces one almost into a Taoist mindset to convey one's thoughts. I rolled this idea around in my head for days, but it did not seem to fit. Language is living and people will create terms to suit their experiences, as Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, what is self-actualization but rich people words? Surrounded by a wo...
