I am at the stage in my life where the kids (4) are gone, the grandchildren (6) have their own lives, and I was at a loss as to how to spend my time. I volunteer for envelope stuffing for charity, working the polls at election time, and babysitting. However, I love to write; and now I can. You see, I am also at the stage in my life where I lose things that are stored somewhere in my memory. I have learned to depend more and more on this new 'paper of the age' to remember them for me. I spend hours on some days sitting in front of the monitor, and it has become my best friend. No, don't cry for me: I love it! I just found "HELIUM", and I'm overjoyed. Perhaps I'll make enough money to buy a laptop. Then I can have a tag-along friend, too.
A STEP UP... I can remember seeing my birth father twice in my life. The earliest memory I have of him is when he slapped my hand for reaching across the dinner table to get a cookie when I was about two years old. The next memory places us together about two years later. I am sitting on his lap at Aunt Rose's. I think he wasn't supposed to be there when I was there; but, being his sister, she called and told him to come see me.
