About me - Amy Arreola

About me

I have lived and worked in 23 countries across the world, including the United States of America.

After working in Project Management for many years, I decided to try my hand at a Graphics Design degree from the Academy of Art University, and continue to pursue this field of study.

I have loved to write both fiction and non-fiction since I was a child, and am exploring the internet as an avenue to publish various writings. I would like to ultimately work as a freelance writer and graphic designer.

The trio in the pic are planning to travel around the United States for the next six months, possibly extending that to a year or two depending on how things go. After all, I left the US on a two year contract and was gone for nearly ten years, so who knows what will happen.

Briefly me

My passion is ...

living life to the fullest.

I know too much about ...

living abroad - according to my other half. I seriously don't think I do. Seriously.

My parents always told me ...

Planning is everything. A plan is nothing. Quoting Eisenhower I believe...

My childhood ambition ...

was to be a MLB player, an astronaut, a video game desinger, Indiana Jones, a lesbian, a boy (they got all the good toys)...I accomplished none of these things and am wildly happy that I didn't.

My favorite memory ...

now that's a bit personal, isn't it.

Why I write ...

to silence the voices!

What I am reading/watching/listening to ...

Terry Pratchett's Making Money/Graphic Design Lectures Online/a weird mix of Outlaw Country and rock 'n' roll

My first job ...

removing a bank mailer from a, "business reply," envelope that the Bank of California had sent out to its customers - $0.01 per envelope!

My best moment ...

when I realized that what I do with my life is my own, and that it's aaall good.

My inspiration ...

The next adventure, what's around the corner, what's NEXT for us in life...(we share a zest for the unusual).

Wow. After perusing the 20 articles within this topic, I must say that I am a bit disappointed by the seemingly binary nature of many: either Americans are indeed pompous, or they are most certainly not. Yes, one or two pointed out that as individuals we should be, well, individuals (an extremely American trait, by the way), and I was even told to leave the country the requisite number of times if I disagreed with being, "American." I offer another perspective in hopes that someone, somewhere will think twice before offering up the same rehashed opinions. First the fact that the debate's t...
