In late September 2007 it was announced that the first UK case of Bluetongue had been found on a farm in Suffolk (1). So what is Bluetongue? Bluetongue virus is one of the orbiviruses and can infect sheep, cattle, goats, deer and camelids. It is not transmissible to humans. Sheep seem to be the most severely infected animals with studies showing that in a susceptible herd up to 70% of the animals may die.
