Beth Lano is "resting comfortably" after quitting a quite lucrative 9-year-stint as a popular morning radio DJ in Las Vegas, Nevada. (What is she, nuts? You be the judge). She is currently employed as a Senior PR Specialist at The Firm Public Relations/Marketing in Las Vegas, where she can put her writing skills to good use, and additionally she is working 6 nights a week as the solo French hornist in the orchestra for "Monty Python's Spamalot" in the Grail Theatre at Wynn Las Vegas. She is in demand as a freelance voice-actor nationwide. As a musician, Beth has worked with pretty much every musical act that requires the presence of the French horn....from Metallica to Sinatra, The Who to Bocelli, and virtually everyone in between. As a voice actor, Beth can be heard on commercials for clients such as Lowes, Cox Communications, Lexus automobiles, Skechers shoes, and as a character in a popular Argentinean anime' series, among others. Although extremely Nordic in appearance, clients don't seem to care, and for some reason, Beth gets a lot of voice work as an African-American woman. She portrayed herself in a 6-part series titled "Casino" for the BBC, and still wonders how THAT turned out, because the BBC hasn't sent her a copy yet. (Hello....BBC?!) Beth lives in Las Vegas with her three cats in a beautiful home with a pool and spa, and because she works so much, she spends precious little time there. For now....
My passion is ...
Music, literature, art, and, apparently, being a ham.
I know too much about ...
nothing, and a little bit about too many things.
My parents always told me ...
I should become a pseudo-intellectual housewife. Seriously.
My childhood ambition ...
was to be an entertainer.
My favorite memory ...
How many people said "I can't remember" in response to this?
Why I write ...
Because I have a lot to say, it's therapeutic, and I love doing it.
What I am reading/watching/listening to ...
Inadvertently, a repeat of "The Bold and the Beautiful". Usually it's music.
My first job ...
Teaching swimming to mentaly-challenged residents of the Indiana State Hostpital in New Castle, Indiana. Call it "One Swam Over The Cukoo's Nest."
My best moment ...
has probably not yet happened. I have had a few that are quite memorable....but I am convinced :the best is yet to come!"
My inspiration ...
Life...and capturing all its absurdities.
Going Home . . . I grew up in a small town in Indiana, New Castle, whose economy was largely based on the presence of a Chrysler plant. This company manufactured ball joints, control arms and steering knuckles. The plant closed for a while, causing the local economy to tank. (A Japanese company named Metaldyne has acquired the plant, as of 2005, and still manufactures the same products.) But there were several years when the auto workers in New Castle weren't doing so well. My parents were not involved in this industry. Dad worked for the phone company, and Mom became the office manager fo...
