There are many different levels of reading. One can read at a level in which no more thought is provoked than that needed to turn the pages, a level in which moderate thought is provoked, or a level in which such a thought is provoked as to challenge the very nature of our existance, to shake the foundations of our beliefs. I recently read Dan Brown's "The Da Vinci Code," and would classify it as a reading of the basest level- a mere piece of entertainment, if you will.
