: About Me

"FROM THE HEART OF A MOTHER" I am a 45-year old mother and grandmother who has battled Multiple Sclerosis for 20 years. When I was diagnosed, I was only 25 years old and my three boys were very young. About two years after my diagnosis, my husband left me to raise our boys alone. I had to go out and find a job. Not only did I have no job experience, after being a stay-home mother for 11 years, but I also had a very serious illness. Somehow, I always found some kind of work though. My boys are all raised now and we are all extremely close. I am also remarried to a wonderful man. Within the past three or four years, my M.S. progressed and I had to start giving myself interferon shots. I am very thankful for them, as they didn't have anything like that when I was first diagnosed back in 1989. It gives those of us with M.S. a lot of hope, that they are actually getting closer to a cure. Not to mention, it has stopped the progression of my M.S. and kept me from going blind. Around the same time that my M.S. began progressing, I also endured a very critical spinal surgery. They actually never thought I would walk again and that I'd probably be paralyzed from the waist down. With weeks of physical therapy and a lot of hard work, I am walking now. I am not able to drive though, but since I've been home, I started going after my dream, which is writing. I've written for years, but I never had the time to pursue it. I have been freelance writing for about three years now for places such as Heartland Boating, Pontoon & Deck Boat, Houseboat, River Hills Traveler, Yorkshire Terrier, Action Pursuit, Houseboat, Aero Sports Connection, Dialogue and the Writer Magazines, the M.S. Newsletter, Quiet Mountain Essays, Story Circle Network, AKC Newsletter and the Leader Publication Newspaper. I had my first book published in January 2007, titled, "From the Heart of a Mother". It is composed of short stories and poems about motherhood and my battle with M.S. I was able to talk on a few different radio stations about my book during M.S. Awareness Week, the first week of March in 2007. My second book was just published in January 2009, "Our Spiritual Makeover." It is a self-help book on improving our spiritual body. What About the Reindeer? There are about 3 million wild reindeer around today and 2 million that are domesticated. They are mainly found north in Russia, but they are also found in Greenland, Iceland and on some islands in Svalbard. They are known for their tolerance of extreme heat and cold.
