KAREN BASSETT
I'm a recently retired public school teacher with 35 years of experience. My specialty was vocal music education. Although I've taught all grade levels, my favorite was grades 9-12. I love the independence, creativeness and communication skills of teenagers.
My writing experiences began when I was in high school. Since then, I've written mostly for self-expression. Along the way I've had a few publications in local newspapers and one in a Mayo Clinic magazine about dealing with Alzheimer's. I've successfully completed a course on writing articles for children's magazines, sponsored by The Institute of Children's Literature. I'm in the process of finishing another Institute course on writings books for children. My first novel, a mystery for older teenagers, is completed but I have yet to seek publication.
I enjoy reading mysteries, writing, swimming, flower gardening and doing research for my writing. I'm currently taking horse riding lessons in anticipation of writing a book about a teenager working with horses. My previous research had me jet skiing.
I live in Southeastern Ohio in a home owned by four cats.

Of course, it's important that her shoes coordinate with her dress, but, gone are the days of high-heeled, fancy dress shoes for every girl. Take the case of one high school senior named, Emilie. Emilie was a girl athlete. One rarely, if ever, saw her in a dress or dressed-up. Most of the time she wore jeans, shorts, t-shirts or warm-up outfits and, of course, sneakers or flip-flops.
