Sam is a native of Richardson, Texas, a suburb of Dallas. He is married and his wife, Debby, is a homemaker. He has two daughters; Taylor (8), and Hailey (5). He is a graduate of the University of Texas at Dallas with a BSBA degree in Marketing. Sam serves as a Career Mentor and Industry Expert Speaker at The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) Schools of Management and Engineering/Computer Science where he acts as a resource for both professors and students. He is an alumni member at UTD. He has been employed by small, medium and large companies and acted in many different sales roles while serving in a technical capacity for many of the same companies.
While in college, he was employed at a large telemarketing company in Irving, Texas. During his 4 years there, he moved from a calling agent to a senior project supervisor. He was responsible for coaching and mentoring call center agents in selling skills. In addition, he achieved corporate recognition for his ability to teach excellent communication skills to sales agents. In the late 80's, Sam joined a startup venture software company. He stayed with this company for 8 years, moving from a sales representative role and training specialist to a director role. His on-going sales effort was repeatedly instrumental in closing many new customer sales as well as driving on-going revenue from existing customers.
In 1996, Sam joined General Electric Information Services to serve in a technical sales role for multiple products. He also served in a consulting role for process improvement and re-engineering projects and attained multiple training certifications in change management and process improvement methodologies. In 1998, he joined a small software company, Logic Works, as a technical sales engineer. After a short time, this company was acquired by a medium size enterprise software provider, Platinum Technology. His role was a pre-sales engineer with most activities focused on executives and management teams. His role continued as Platinum was acquired by Computer Associates. He stayed with this company for 7 months before leaving to join Rational Software, a medium size software company, as a pre-sales engineer to sell their application development tool suite. His role consisted of supporting the sales team to identify business issues, prepare requirements and needs analysis documents, creation of custom software demonstrations, proof of concepts and other duties. After 3 years, Rational was acquired by IBM as part of their software division. During his tenure with IBM, he achieved several certifications and he published several intellectual property documents and was recognized as the top contributor to the internal knowledge base in 2004.
After leaving IBM, he served as a Technical Sales Executive responsible for performing technical sales and pre-sales activities. He established a Texas sales presence for this VC-funded software company and developed a strong client base. In addition, he contributed significant knowledge capital for a redesigned web site. He also provided significant key knowledge capital for increased sales and detailed product training content.
During the next 9 months, Sam established a local presence as a sales and marketing consultant by providing services to small size startups focusing on commercialization stage of operations and improvement of sales organizations. He has participated with sales and marketing strategy development and implementation. In addition, he has provided expertise with conceiving, developing and designing of documents including investor presentations. Finally, his expertise has proven successful in analyzing and designing sales processes to support operational needs.
At his next recent employment, ending in February 2007, Sam served in a senior presales engineer role for a VC funded startup software company. He performed presales expertise for a break-through business process workflow specification technology for enterprise applications. He also assisted to improve content and structure of internal documentation for user training. His communication skills were applied in his role as the managing editor responsible for proofing, authoring and publishing articles for a company sponsored industry newsletter.
During his current role as a presales engineer, Sam serves as a resource for a single sales person. His role is focused on identifying business issues, preparing requirements and needs analysis documents and creation of custom software demonstrations, proof of concepts and other duties. In addition, he published several internal documents and external sales presentations.
