Born and raised in Washington, D.C. Attended Anacostia High School. Received a B.A. in English Literature in 1979 from Lincoln University. In 1983, received a J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.
A full-time Pennsylvania resident since 1984. Worked as a judicial law clerk, Assistant District Attorney, and staff attorney in the field litigation office of a major insurance company. A solo practitioner since 1997.
