I am proud of my Irish Heritage and I am proud to be an American, as my people fought and died for the freedom of this great country. We have called America home since 1735. My people came from a deep valley at the foot of the Cohutta Mountains named, "The Devil's Den" by my Grandfather, several generations back.
My Grandfather chose this name, because he fought at Gettysburg. He was one of the few survivors of the bloody battle at Devil's Den. His name was William Thomas Postell. Grandpa Postell always said, "The place known as 'Devil's Den' was a place, he would never ever forget."
He fought proudly, for the side of the Confederacy in the Civil War. Though like many folks back then, we were a family divided. Some of the men in my family fought for the side of the Yankees and some fought for the Confederates.
Our whole country was at war. Unlike the wealthy plantation owners, slavery wasn't the real issue. You see, none of my people ever wanted nor owned a slave. They were simple mountain people, who made their own way.
In reality, they all chose to fight for their homes and families and the land that they held dear. Freedom was something, they well understood. My ancestry dates back to the early seventeen hundreds. I am also honored to hold a place within, "The Daughter's Of The American Revolution." My forefather fought in the, "The War Of 1812." My own father is a veteran of "World War II."
I love nature and animals of all sorts. I love to read. My mother is my inspiration, for any and all my writing capabilities. She always reminded me, "The greatest gift ever bestowed upon her, was the ability to read!" I love reading poetry and studying in my Bible. The book of Psalms and Isaiah are two of my favorite books. I can always find encouragement, inspiration and guidance, within God's Holy word.
I enjoy history. Photography is one of my passions. Boating and fishing are two of my favorite pass times. I don't like crowds or too much noise. I like the quiet peacefulness that comes from the songs of nature. I hate TV, unless I have something of specific interest to watch. I like sleeping in on lazy days. I am a night owl. I am usually up till all hours of the night.
I believe in Jesus. I believe in God and his infinite power. I believe in the power of prayer and the family unit. I love music of all kinds, from Gospel to Blue Grass and Rock-n-Roll. I love soft pillows and down comforters, little warm puppies, baby squirrels and watching the night sky for shooting stars.
I have raised bulldogs from the time I was just a child. Bulldogs are my favorite breed, this includes the "American Pit Bull" of which I am an avid defender. I have raised and rescued many. My motto is the slogan, "Punish the deed, not the breed." Birds are also very special to me, from the smallest Hummer to the Hawk and the Owl, each different bird is significant to me. Birds are my totem.
My best friend and confident is my soul mate and husband, of just over twenty three years. I have no children of my own, but I raised two boys. They are my pride and joy. I am blessed to have Aiden Miles and Gavin Wayne as my Grandsons. They are most precious to my heart. I love plants and watching them grow. Spring and Fall are my favorite seasons.
My favorite sounds are of the waves, lapping against the beach or of a nice bubbling spring, pouring down the side of a mountain. A part of my soul lives in North Carolina, Tennessee and the North Georgia mountains, from whence, all my people came.
I am real "Hill Rat" or a "River Rat." I am smiling now, as I recall... My brothers nicknamed me, "Kangaroo Rat" when I was a tiny girl. At the time, the name infuriated me but I suppose in retrospect, they were not too very far off base. I know I am a "Pack Rat" for I love to save things. I cherish memento's from the past. The past is what made me... Who and what I am today.
Call me which ever name you please, I will not be offended. I'm definitely a sure 'nuff country girl. Although my roots are in the mountains, I spent the first five years of my life in Florida. We lived about four miles from Vero Beach. I feel very much at home at either place. In the mountains or by the sea, that is where... I'll always love to be!

Waiting I shall not think of those things today; Tomorrow may never be. Tattered and torn with broken mast, My ships are all lost at sea And I know they never shall be found, These ships of mine But shall drift ghost like With the winds of time. But I shall not worry about those things today, For in some vast blue tomorrow ages away Somewhere Somehow T'will all be right. And shattered dreams mended, That are dead tonight. I shall not dream no more, Nor think of the wild sweet rose, Or her nectar to drink. I will not worry about those things. Tis too late But do those things which seem so d...
